I use this book with my students. It's not perfect, but there's not a lot to choose from. A few observations:1) It uses European Spanish. This means some things sound odd, or even confusing, to Latin Americans like me.2) It has errors. I purchased the Kindle version of the new edition that will be released in paper in November 2018. This edition eliminated the dragon story and added a space story about a capsule. This story seems rushed, and it not only has errors in the Spanish, but also one in the story itself. Hiring a proofreader won't hurt.3) It contains too many low frequency words. This is most definitely not for beginners. Some words are unknown even to natives, such as pergamino in the Knight story. I re-typed part of a story into a text editor where I use a user dictionary containing the top 20K Spanish word forms. There's about 6-10% of word forms OUTSIDE THE TOP 20K! Something written for "beginners" should focus on high-frequency words instead. Anything beyond 2% unknown words becomes a chore.4) Reading is made difficult by the names. Some stories use really odd names instead of native Spanish names. This makes reading more difficult even for natives.5) As for the stories themselves, the first one is boring. The second one is mildly interesting. The remaining ones are more interesting and I kept reading them like I would with native materials. But sometimes you wonder if something was lost in the translation (Remember Olly's native language is English), because it can be difficult to follow what's going on.

I'm a Spanish beginner (English is my first language) and it can be hard to find stories that are put together well enough to be fun, yet have a depth of variety—in both vocabularly and grammar—to be worthwhile.These stories fill an important slot in my learning process, when I don't want to do vocab flashcards, or read real-world articles, or use apps like DuoLingo, etc.I'm docking a star because there are occasional errors/typos, especially in the end-of-chapter summary/vocab sections. But it's not egregious (I'd make it a 4.5 star review if I could). I even contacted the author on Twitter and he said an update was forthcoming that should sync to my Kindle automatically.I would definitely purchase a 2nd set of such stories if one came out.

Finally, I have found a reading tool that actually helps me, rather than frustrates me. Olly Richards has put together a great combination of teaching and fun reading. For me, his instructions on how to read the stories takes all of the "I will never get this!" feeling away, and it is awesome to have enjoyable short stories specifically targeted to my level. Plus the short quizzes at the end to ensure that you understood the story are a great addition. My opinion is that this is a must-have addition for anyone seriously learning Spanish.One note, however - it is written in Castilian Spanish, not Latin American Spanish, so if you have been studying mainly Latin American Spanish (like me) there will be a few times when you have to use your own dictionary or on-line translator in addition to the provided vocabulary list after each story. This has not bothered me at all, as 99% of the time, I understand the gist of the paragraph without having to interrupt and translate.I highly recommend this book. The confidence it gave me when I realized I could read MUCH more than I previously thought - it was and continues to be a great boost to continue my studies and to me not feeling 'stuck.' I look forward to getting to the next level and purchasing the next level of Spanish Short Stories. Big thanks to Olly Richards for providing an enjoyable and essential learning tool.

This book isn't mean to be rated using Amazons rating buttons for books. I had to click on of them to get to the typing part so I chose predictable. But of course it is. This is a Spanish reader for those seeking to learn Spanish, like me. It's written with the learner in mind and the story aspect is just to help you learn new words. So far, I've found it very helpful in that regard. I am reading it using Kindle so it gives me the ability to click on a word and have it translated into English so if I don't know one and can't figure it out using context I can still learn. This book was $1.99 when I purchased it and it's worth every penny as a way to help learn a second language.

The author has the right idea for what a book of introductory short stories for learning a foreign language should be. It is good that there is no accompanying English text--is is better for the reader to figure out the puzzle of reading a foreign language without such training wheels!The author works into his stories the kind of words that a tourist needs, rather that load you up with arcane vocabulary words.There is one odd thing about these stories however. I have started reading the author's book of introductory Italian short stories and the first story is identical to the to the first story in this book! Only the names of the cities, characters, and food have been changed--every event in the Spanish book correspond to an event in the Italian book! Stay tuned as I read more of the Italian stories!

i have been studying spanish for about 5 years... i consider myself a "weak" intermediate speaker. it is very hard to find just the right book. some are way to advanced and most are to beginner"ish", this is a perfect book because i can enjoy reading it yet i am still challenged by learning new words and structure. i am sure i will purchase his new book and my skill allow.

WHERE TO GO Before the fall of Communism, a staggering ninety percent of foreign tourists visiting Czechoslovakia never strayed from the environs of the Czech capital, Prague. While that no longer holds true, Prague is still the main focus of most people’s trips to the Czech Republic, certainly English-speaking tourists. Of course, much of the attention heaped on Prague is perfectly justified. It is one of the most remarkable cities in Europe, having emerged virtually unscathed from two world wars. Baroque palaces and churches shout out from the cobbles, Gothic pinnacles spike the skyline, and Art Nouveau and functionalist edifices line the boulevards. The rest of the Czech Republic divides neatly into two: Bohemia to the west and Moravia to the east. Prague is the perfect launching pad from which to explore the rolling hills and forests of Bohemia, at their most unspoilt in South Bohemia, whose capital is Ceské Budejovice, a grid-plan medieval city and home to the original Budweiser beer. The real gem of the region is Cesky Krumlov, arguably the most stunning medieval town in the country, beautifully preserved in a narrow U-bend of the River Vltava. To the west, Plzen produces the most famous of all Czech beers, Pilsener Urquell, the original golden nectar from which all other lagers derive. Meanwhile, along the German border, a triangle of relaxing spa towns – Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázne and Frantiskovy Lázne – retain an air of their halcyon days in the last years of the Habsburg Empire. Pine-covered mountains form Bohemia’s natural borders, and the weird sandstone "rock cities" of the Ceské Svycarsko and Cesky raj and Krkonose, in the north and east of the region, make for some of the most memorable landscapes. Moravia, the eastern province of the Czech Republic, is every bit as beautiful as Bohemia, though the crowds here thin out significantly. The largest city, Brno, has its own peculiar pleasures – not least its interwar functionalist architecture – and gives access to the popular Moravian karst region, or Moravsky kras, plus a host of other nearby castles and chateaux. The southern borders of Moravia comprise the country’s main wine region, while in the uplands that form the border with Bohemia are two of the most perfectly preserved medieval towns in the entire country, Telc and Slavonice. To the north, Olomouc is perhaps Moravia’s most charming city, more immediately appealing than Brno, and just a short step away from the region’s highest mountains, the Jeseníky in Moravian Silesia, and the Beskydy, renowned for their folk architecture. Although the Slovak capital, Bratislava, can’t compare with Prague, it does have its virtues, not least its compact old town and its position on one of Europe’s great rivers, the Danube. The flat plain of the Danube basin is of little visual interest, but there are two historic towns that make worthwhile day-trips from the capital: Trnava, Slovakia’s most important ecclesiastical town, and Nitra, the spiritual centre of Slovak Catholicism. In the central mountain regions, well-preserved medieval mining towns like Banská Stiavnica and Kremnica still smack of their German origins. Other towns, like those in the Váh valley, are mainly of interest as bases for exploring the chief attractions of the region, the mountains of the Malá Fatra, Low Tatras, and – tallest and most spectacular of the lot – the High Tatras. These jagged granite peaks are Slovakia’s most popular tourist destination, and justifiably so. Within easy reach, however, is the Spis region, the country’s architectural high point. The area is dotted with intriguing medieval towns, like Levoca, originally built by German settlers, now preserved almost untouched since the sixteenth century. And just a step away is the Slovensky raj, a thickly wooded region of verdant ravines and rocky outcrops. Further east still is Presov the cultural centre of the Rusyn minority who inhabit the villages to the north and east. Here, you’ll find an extraordinary wealth of wooden churches. Finally, Kosice, Slovakia’s second largest city, boasts Europe’s easternmost Gothic cathedral and has a strongly Hungarian ambience. It’s also a good launch pad for exploring the Slovak karst region or Slovensky kras, and the beech forests of the Vihorlat region by the Ukrainian border. WHEN TO GO In general, the climate is continental, with short, fairly hot summers and chilly winters. Spring can be a good time to visit, as the days tend to warm quickly, with consistently pleasant, mild weather for most of May. This is also the blossom season, when the fruit trees that line so many Czech and Slovak roads are in full flower. Autumn is also recommended, with clear and settled weather often lasting for days on end in September and October. With both countries heavily forested, this is also a great time to appreciate the changing colours of the foliage. Winter can be a good time to come to Prague: the city looks beautiful under snow and there are fewer tourists to compete with. Other parts of the country have little to offer during winter (aside from skiing), and most sights stay firmly closed between November and March. Summer is, of course, still the season that sees the largest number of tourists descend on the two countries. Certainly, temperatures are at their highest, with the occasional heat wave pushing readings above 30°C. While that can be advantageous if you fancy swimming in a lake or river, it’s not fun in Prague, which is at its most crowded in July and August.

Also, the author seems to have traveled by car and the book lacks practical information on public transportation, such as how long it takes to travel from one place to another and how much bus or train tickets cost. This book will provide you with great background information once you are already there, but for practical trip planning, I found I needed to refer to the Lonely Planet.

I purchased this book before a three-day trip to Liberec. Literally nothing that was written about the city was on target. Their opinion that the place was unattractive was, IMHO wrong. The recommended restaurants didn't exist; were incorrectly located on the map; or were absolutely terrible! The opening/closing times for the Bohemian glass museum in a nearby town were inaccurate.Too bad I can't return it.I'm planning on going back to the CZ. I'll take Lonely Planet instead.

I know he'll not only enjoy reading this book, but will walk away with so much more, than just how to be a better video blogger.I've been an entrepreneur whose had a few successes and more lessons over the last 20+ years, but I can truly say she sums so much up in a truly remarkable book. (think I highlighted something on almost every single page)If you want to learn how to be a great video blogger, this book will definitely do that for you, no doubt. The true bonus of this book is that you'll also be positioned to be a better entrepreneur and also individual with more confidence. Strongly recommend reading this well written, informative book ~ Mike Kawula.

Some of the information included suggestions that I'd already heard on YouTube from some other providers, so the material in Blog Like a Boss reinforced some concepts for me. I also gathered some new ideas and information.I particularly liked her suggestions of putting your ideas in Buckets (or Categories) and aligning them with popular post types. She demonstrated that it's easy to come up with a number of topics and headlines based upon this kind of matrix, and that's something I'm starting to use for my own material.My complaints about the book aren't about the solid material she includes. Instead, it's about the meandering beginning and the incredible amount of fluff in each section. Amy advises her readers to keep their YouTube content short and to the point. I wish she'd taken that advice when creating this book. I'd give it a much higher rating if it weren't such a poor reading experience.

I had high hopes for this book, and it is exactly what three stars means: okay.What I likeIt's an easy read.She's open and personable.There are some great tips and practical advice.What I don't like:It's too obviously self-published. I am a huge fan of self-publishing, but I believe the quality should be there. The font is too casual, the layout is too casual...it's just not professional feeling like I would have expected.She's waaaaaay too general in the chapter on equipment. In fact, it's so general as to be completely useless.She references videos to watch that have since been renamed on her site, so you win a prize if you can actually find them.Overall, I would not really recommend it. I like her YouTube channel, and I think I was looking for more.

I had been resisting the video vogue, but once I realized that I would need video to move forward with my message, I was urged to pick up this book. And I am so happy I did!I'm pleased to say that thanks to Amy's book, I've started making my first sucky videos! And, you know what? I'm getting more comfortable being filmed and seeing myself on film. They are not always going to suck; I believe Amy when she says that. I'm not a boss yet. Maybe more like low-level management. Actually, more like an intern. But I'm finding my voice and dressing the part. No where to go from here but up.

Great advice. I love her systematized approach. When I first started reading, I was a little worried because her tone is slightly "valley girl," but the advice is spot on.I've since checked out her YouTube channel as well. Her videos about how to vlog are some of the best I've seen. Now she's going in this "lifestyle" direction, which is cool, but doesn't resonate with me as much as her videos about how to make a video... Anyway, none of that has to do with the book. If you're looking for a book that gives you exact instructions about how to start and run a successful YouTube channel, this is it.

Amy does an amazing job in this book of explaining how and why video/vlogging works (and how to make it work for you). I loved her fun conversational tone. I'm so excited to get started with video myself and walked away with tons of actionable tips. Highly recommend!

I have not finished reading this book yet, but what I have read so far I give it 2 thumbs up.I am male in my 50s who is pretty much self taught on computers and other tech stuff I have. I have a blog and wanted to create a sister to it via video. So while looking for books on vlogging I kept coming back to this one. And I am glad I bought it. This young lady has it going on and even explains it well enough for us older folks to jump right in and join the youtube crowd.If you are thinking about vlogging, this book needs to be on your shelf.

I don't know why I sat on this book for a year before reading it. I could not put this book down as I took 1 night to read the whole thing. At the present time I don't have the interest to jump into video but this book is meant for so much more than video. There are lessons you can learn which can be applied to any aspect of your online journey. Amy is raw and straight to the point in this book. If you are looking for a cup of sugar, you will not find it here.Hats off to a job well done Amy.

Dr. A. Gary Shilling is president of A. Gary Shilling & Company, Inc., economic consultants and investment advisors, managing individual and institutional accounts. The firm also publishes INSIGHT, a monthly report of economic forecasts and investment strategy, and Dr. Shilling advises Thematic Investment Partners and Thematic Futures Fund, investment partnerships oriented toward economic, financial, and political themes. A regular columnist for Forbes magazine, he has been twice ranked as Wall Street's top economist by Institutional Investor magazine's poll of financial institutions , and Futures magazine ranked him the country's number one Commodity Trading Advisor in 1993. Although Dr. Shilling does not yet manage any mutual funds, CNBC anchor Bill Griffeth was so impressed with his investment approach that he profiled him along with 19 well-known mutual fund managers in his 1995 book, The Mutual Fund Masters. Dr. Shilling is well known for his forecasting record. In the spring of 1969 he was among the few who correctly saw that a recession would start late in the year. In 1973 he stood almost alone in forecasting that the world was entering a massive inventory building spree to be followed by the first major worldwide recession since the 1930s. In the late 1970s, when most thought that raging inflation would last forever, he was the first to predict that the changing political mood of the country would lead to an end of severe inflation, as well as to potentially serious financial and economic readjustment problems. His first book, co-authored with Kiril Sokoloff, was published by McGraw-Hill in the spring of 1983 and entitled Is Inflation Ending? Are You Ready? Your investments, your business, and your personal life are geared to inflation lasting forever, not disinflation. Your portfolio is crammed full of tangible assets like coins, antiques, and real estate the great inflation hedges of the 1965-80 era of accelerating prices, but assets that would suffer as inflation rates fell. At the same time, you own far too few financial assets, especially stocks and bonds disastrous investments in periods of high inflation, but great winners in disinflation. Inflation, however, was so deeply ingrained in everyone's thinking that the initial signs of its exit were ignored. The book's reviewers basically dismissed the authors' ideas. But by the mid 1980s, their forecast of inflation's demise began to look credible. In a delayed victory of sorts, David Warsh of the Boston Globe essentially reviewed the book in that newspaper's March 13, 1986, edition, and Bruce Ramsey did the same for the April 2, 1986, issue of the Seattle Post Intelligence in an article entitled "A preposterous economic prediction that came true." By then inflation rates not only had fallen considerably, but stocks and bonds were thriving while tangibles were in trouble. Dr. Shilling was convinced that more of the same lay ahead because the world of shortages seemed to be over and a world of surpluses was in prospect. His second book, The World Has Definitely Changed New Economic Forces and Their Implications for the Next Decade (Lakeview Press, 1986) , spelled out this thesis. The 1987 stock market crash raised the possibility that deflation and not just low inflation might be in the cards, and his third book, After the Crash, Recession or Depression? (Lakeview Economic Services, 1988), explored this idea. Despite the title, he wasn't specifically forecasting deflation, but came closer to doing so when he, assisted by Anne D. Willard, created "The Deflation Game" in 1989. It's a Monopoly-like board game that is biased toward winning with financial asset holdings and losing with tangibles. Dr. Shilling is widely recognized as the world's oldest living disinflationist, since his forecast of low inflation is over 20 years old and his suggestion of possible deflation has been around for about a decade. He received his A.B. degree in physics, magna cum laude, from Amherst College, where he was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics at Stanford University. Before establishing his own firm in 1978, Dr. Shilling was Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of White, Weld & Co., Inc. Earlier he set up the Economics Department at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith at age 29 and served as the firm's first chief economist. Prior to Merrill Lynch, he was with Standard Oil Co. (N.J.) where he was in charge of U.S. and Canadian economic analysis and forecasting. In addition to writing for Forbes, Dr. Shilling is a columnist for Standard & Poor's CreditWeek and a member of The Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japan Economic Journal) Board of Economists. Good explanation of why inflation probably will not be a problem in the not too distant future.His reasons: demographics (boomers are aging and buy less) (generations since boomers have been smaller, purchase as much to keep prices rising) (virtually no wage gains for so long means companies cannot pass on price increases) (low interest rates for a long time do not seem to have generated run away inflation) (increased competition all over the world)This is a good book on a subject most folks haven't considered. This book would give a good foundation in the concept of deflation - it was last serious during the Great Depression of the 30's.

Good source of what to consider when trying to decipher situation, old data

Deflation never happened. Maybe it was all the money the Fed pumped into the economy for problems that never happened like the Y2K or Millennium bug. Then we got the housing and real estate bubbleflation followed by a panic and more money pumping. With so much officious meddling how can you forecast anything? I guess we'll just have to keep on flying by the seat of the pants.

Shilling predicts good - rather than bad deflation (at least for the USA): i.e. surging demand absorbing excess supply because of price falls. It is a US-centric view - weaker on the international side. Deflation addresses an important & neglected subject. The slow start is tolerable because of good, up-to-date graphs and data generally. Happily he is consultant-clear rather than economist-arcane. His analysis of the US economy is compelling & useful for foreign readers. Nonetheless, there are questions: will policymakers (including central bankers) not adjust; e.g. I understand that defense spending has started rising again. Shilling's review of factors such as the internet is useful. The foreign material is poorer - though his Asian chapters are good. Bizarrely for such a serious & scholarly work, there is no index.Shilling is worth reading - he thinks the west will experience `good' rather than `bad' deflation - but how deep will the Deflation be and how long will it last? He could have usefully studied natural resources in more depth; after all, this is where deflation hit hardest and earliest. I will read him again.

A careful look at the book shows that Shilling's THEORY for deflation is based on the longwaves of Kondratieff. Shilling uses a real (as in real business cycle literature) rather than a monetary interpretation (a la Milton Friedman, Irving Fisher..) of longwaves which results in his use of 1974 (following the oil shock) rather than 1980 (following the tight monetary policies by central banks under the guise of Monetarist doctrine) as the beginning of the current wave down.

This book will help you make sense out of the headlines you have been seeing everyday in the business section of your paper. It will help you "connect the dots" about megatrends you maybe were aware of, but not taking into account with your investment decisions. I read this back in August 1998, and it is amazing how current events seem to be playing out almost exactly as forecasted in the book. You should not miss the chance to read this.

This is a great warning to beware of a series of ONE. Look how well it rated and look at the INFLATION we are facing now, this could change of course but only after the FED pushes inflation as far as it can without blow back. Predicting the future can be as hard as forecasting the weather.

"Andre Talks Hair" is an excellent resource for hair care. Andre starts his discussion with two "get to know your hair" chapters. From there, he gradually and simply "talks" good hair care from the perfect cut, to using chemicals to caring for gray hair (my issue), to dealing with hair that as been damaged,and of course, a chapter discussing how to take your hair into your own hands and doing the job yourself (which is where I am at this time). Yes, he does do a great job on coloring one's hair. It is not an "ethnic" haircare book. Every lady, regardless of her ethnicity, will find her hair in this book. A great read and a great price. Oh yes, the foreword by Oprah Winfrey is a great stamp of approval!Andre Talks Hair!

I almost missed this book because I thought it was primarily for African-American women. I learned that all the years of longing for my hair to look a certain way were wasted - because I'll never have that look without a lot of work every single day. Such a relief to learn I wasn't crazy - and a gift to get specific recommendations about how I could work with it successfully. And, if you have wiry or curly hair, this book is a MUST> I purchased this copy to give to a friend, and I'm sure she'll be thrilled as much as I am.

this book is okay. the price was good. it gave me some info about my hair type..

Images native and informative. Enjoyed learning about a subject I knew little about. Andre writes with a flair and brings hair alive.

Andre Talks Hair has given me many helpful tips for managing my hair. My hope is that he update the book, especially since the release of his Andre Walker Hair products and due to the time since publication.

This book was somewhat boring. He didnt go into details as I expected. When i got to the middle of the book, I just put it on the shelf. Such a waste.
