About the Author

Kurt Pany, CFE, CPA, is Professor Emiritus of Accounting at Arizona State University. He received his B.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Illinois, respectively. He has also served as a staff accountant with Arthur Andersen and Touche Ross, as a member of the Auditing Standards Board, and as an academic fellow with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Professor Pany has published articles on auditing in such journals as The Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, The Journal of Accountancy,  and The CPA Journal. He is a member of and has served on various committees of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

This book is so poorly written! Not clear information at all. The author tries too hard to fancy up the book, just give us the information we need without repeating yourself over and over in different ways to make the topic hard to understand. I am have taken several accounting courses as I am about to graduate and this is the worst college level book I've had to date. It's really really unfortunate that students have to pay so much money for books that don't teach the material in an organized fashion.

Book still holding sturdy (binding) after all the tears and abuse I put it through.Content wise, I love it. It's in plain simple easy to understand English and just as my professors have said, it's not something you throw away or rent and give back. It's an AMAZING reference and touches on the basics of auditing. It does a great job though.

I'm not looking for a fiction fast-paced novel with accounting textbooks. But, I've read enough of them to realize when one is written better than another. This doesn't make the cut. All the critical information is in there, it's all factually consistent and written technically well. But it's a pedantic read. There's very little natural language used and there's no effort to relate to the reader for an easier comprehension experience.

Adequately written, reading it was mandatory. Overpriced as usual.

Just finished reading chapter 1 and 2 and I can definitely say it simplicity is not its forte. Auditing and assurance are as complicated as it is. Following the GAAP alone is not enough sometime. The worst part is the school forcing you to use its online connect system because the facilitator is too lazy enough to come up with the test on their own. It's no wonder the US online education system is down the toilet.

I’m studying for the CPA exam and have been out of college for almost 4 years so I got this book to use as a refresher. It is well written with good examples that make it easier to understand.

Very difficult read. Lots of info. Reads like a technical manual. It's one of the more difficult to read textbooks I've had to use. But... what choice do you have? The professor is going to assign the book and there's not much you can do about it

The book was a bit damaged. Otherwise, it was ok.
