I enjoyed reading the book, $10-12 is an ok price for this information. I especially liked the first half of the book about scaling a web architecture, it contained just the right amount of information to cover this in an interview. This information indirectly covers the very common interview question "What happens behind the scenes if you enter a URL in your browser and get a web page", it would be a nice improvement to cover this question explicitly in the book. Chapter three about designing a key-value store seems to be a bit overkill for an interview question.Things to improve:Chapter 2 about consistent hashing relies on color in the text and the graphics, which the black-and-white print is missing. You can still understand it, but it's tedious.There are also calculation errors, such as 10 million * 365 * 100 = 465 billion and this number is used in subsequent calculations. I also spotted a few comma errors while reading.My wife found it odd that no author is listed anywhere. The date on the last page is March 23, 2019, the day I ordered it!Overall I found the purchase worthwhile, the book could use some TLC to make it more professional. Maybe then the author doesn't need to hide his/her name anymore :-)

The content of the book is pretty good, but the problem is with the printed / hard copy of the book. In most of the chapters (especially chapter 2), the Author used color symbol indication for explaining things. But the hard copy of the book everything is black ink (even diagrams) which makes things difficult to understand.If you see sample print copy chapter in the print book preview section, it's in color.Tried to reach out to amazon customer service and they suggested to buy the kindle version of the book.

I could have just read online instead of buying this book. It just covers 3 problem and doesn't cover many generic concepts of system design.

Great book to get started with designing at scale. It's a gentle introduction, and explains some basic concepts really well to get started and graduate to more resources.

I would have loved to see more design problems solved instead of one in too much detail. But kudos to effort taken to write it up.

A short read, the book gives you a good refresher on some vocabulary and concepts useful for system design interviews.

This book is exactly what it says on the cover: It is ONE interiewer's guide to what he looks for in his system design interview questions. And it can be read in a shorter time than it takes to, well, do the interview.This book lists some topics that are useful for checking if you know them before you interview. But this book is so cursory that it's not a good source for learning those topics. If you get the book and you don't know something, I recommend visiting websites to get a more balanced view.If you follow this book's advice and you're interviewed by Alex, you will pass Alex's interview. If you follow this book's advice and you're interviewed by someone other than Alex, you will be slightly better prepared... but might not pass the interview.

Poorly written and typeset, this has the quality of a middle school project. The contents are not useful. Not worth the low price tag.
