I used this as a reference manual when studying for my Pain Boards (ASA)Was helpful in clarifying info.

I purchased this book prior to starting my pain management fellowship. It is good for a quick overview, a brief description to bring me up to speed on an unfamiliar topic. However, this book, despite its title, is not appropriate in its content to be an ABA-Pain board review book. It has some nice pictures and descriptions of nerve blocks; its content for the board-relevant information we need to know regarding advanced pain procedures is lacking. This book does little to address general management, medication management, patient evaluation, and complications.... all the things that make up a multiple-choice test question. Caution, there are 700 review questions, but no explanations on the correct answers, so if you are looking for an exam/board review book, look elseware. So, I would recommend this book for the anesthesiology or PM&R resident or would-be pain fellow as a preview book with some practical information, but not a board review book.

Overall very good resource, however majority of the material is recycled/condensed from the 'Atlas of Interventional Pain Management', with a few review questions at the end of the book. Answers are provided in a, b,c format without coinciding discussion/explanation of the answer. One would be better served by purchasing the atlas to review the procedures (good pictures/succinct description of indication) and a separate text for board review.

I bought this to review for the ABA pain boards 2012. I was disappointed. Overall, too general to be adequately informative for a specialist and too wordy to be a good study guide. Probably good for a medical student or generalist, but in my opinion substandard for a Pain Specialist. It appears someone cut and pasted from the main text. For example, in the section labelled "Spinal Stenosis" surgery as an option is not even mentioned. Phrases like "... are best treated by..." or it is reasonable to consider... x,y, and z as treatment." Basically there is a lack of explanation substantiated by studies or facts that would give the reader the information that an expert in pain should have. I believe a more critical presentation of the topics is necessary instead of regurgitating general practice would be a much better format and could be done in a bullet form or "must know" would serve my purposes better.

This book must have been rushed out to publication without editing. There are graphical errors and factual errors. Needs an update.
