I got to page 40 and literally fell asleep, this was so mind-numbingly boring. Don't waste your money or time. Glad I got it from the library.

3.5 starsHaving discovered Elin Hilderbrand's books later in her career, I quickly fell in love with her more recent works. This summer, I thought it would be the perfect time to revisit Nantucket and delve into some of her earlier works. Unfortunately, I've found them to be average, at best.The Blue Bistro, however, intrigued me. The up-close-and-personal look at the upscale restaurant business was fascinating, as were the larger-than-life characters portrayed in this story. And let's face it, every time I picked this book up, I found myself heading to the kitchen for a snack. The descriptions of the meals had my mouth watering incessantly.Unfortunately, I didn't love Thatcher or Fiona's characters, and didn't have much sympathy for either. The ending of the book was pedestrian at best and sort of left the reader hanging. It's a shame too, as this could have been a 4 star book for me.

Brought this book for traveling, so I read it, having enjoyed a previous book by this author. But I can't recommend this one, it certainly isn't a cheerful, lighthearted story as the cover conveys. I did not care for any of the depressing characters, and after getting through this strange group, came the very abrupt ending. I actually put the book down and said "what?". The best part to me was the restaurant and food description. But like someone else said, even the restaurant quests were unhappy. Purchased book without reading reviews, but will know better next time. Also, the main male character and restaurant owner, Thatcher, is a (supposedly recovering) alcoholic, but he pushes Adrienne to drink champagne to push sales in her role of restaurant hostess. Really pushes it, and she just goes along. I found that very off putting.

Nantucket what a place to visit through the eyes of Elin Hildebrand! I am a first time reader of this author and wish there would have been a sequel!! "The Blue Bistro" is an easy read or listen all captured in three months. A high class restaurant on the island of Nantucket where the scenery is breathtaking. Adrienne, Thatcher, Feona are the main characters however the restaurant crew and patrons become a descriptive part in this book.It's has real life situations, relationships that inspired me to fall into the book and think what I would do in each of their lives. One can make more of this book other than simply another read. Truth is expressed in this book in my eyes. What happens when patrons come in to this high end restaurant and make one feel absolutely of great value yet do they feel the same when one is out and about at a party!?!? Interesting.What's the entanglement between Feona, Thatcher and Adrienne?!A great book if you desire light reading and beautiful scenery and relationships!I didn't find it depressing at all; if it was real life story decisions made in this book would be the same in real life. Each character brings his/her own value. I loved this book! I didn't want it to end!

I confess that my opinion of this book is probably biased, because I have personal experience living with someone who has CF.The story is fine, and as someone who loves food, I enjoyed that part. But the aspects about CF really bugged me, because she clearly wrote this without doing any research whatsoever on the current state of CF, and how it's treated. Instead, this is clearly from the experience of her husband, who lost a friend to CF. Tragic as that is, it has nothing to do with how the condition is treated today, and some of the facts are completely wrong (for example, just because you have CF doesn't mean you have an enormous appetite).I also found the characters of Adrienne and Thatcher pretty obnoxious, and Fiona seemed to use her diagnosis as a way to guilt people into doing things her way, which annoyed me as well.All in all, not my favorite of her books (much prefer Beautiful Day, The Island, and Winter Street).

I really loved this book. I feel like I know the characters and I want to be at the Blue Bistro. If I. Could have given 4.5 stars I would, because I wanted more from the ending. It was fast and I needed more. How about a sequel? 😬 I loved the character development although the plot was at often times slow. The relationship between Fiona and Thatch was one of the sweetest I have ever known. This was my first Elin Hilderbrand novel and it left my wanting more. Since it is 3 days before Christmas, I think I will begin “Winter Street.” I would love if there was a sequel, and Thatcher and Fiona opened up a restaurant together on Nantucket. Until then, I will move on and most likely read this again in years to come.

A very compelling novel about love and loss, about real characters learning and sharing truths about life. A must read for all Elin Hilderbrand fans.

This is by far the best of Hilderbramd's books this far. I have been entranced by the characters , and felt all of their emotions. Of course, one must suspend belief that Adrienne can become the perfect restaurant manager in less than 3 months, but her trials and goods make her more endearing. I spent the last 30 minutes of the book with tears running down my face. And I wish it had never ended. And what could be a higher compliment?

I thought you were great and instantly fell in love with your personality. I didn't purchase the book you had at the lunch, but instead decided to start with the book you say is your personal favorite. Only 8 pages in and I'm in love.
