152 of the book's 242 pages are dedicated to capsule reviews of the various ships and very general information about the destination. This is all fine and good if you are starting from scratch, but if you've already booked and are looking for detailed information on the ports of call and various things to do when you get there, look elsewhere. With only 90 pages dedicated to more than 20 destinations (did we really need guides to Vancouver and Seattle), you can imagine how little detail exists on each port of call.

Great guide! It's chock full of practical, useable information on Alaska cruise ships and ports of call, and as always from Frommer's, at various price points. Helped us make the decision we want to travel to Alaska on a cruise, consider and select several cruise lines compatible with our travel style and budget, and determine what ports we really want on the itinerary. Since it's a couple years old, we have double-checked other sources as well. Prices have gone up a bit, as you might expect, but we found many other sources confirming their assessments and recommendations. This will be our first cruise and we're feeling confident that we're armed with the right information to approach our travel agent. Frommer's guides have never disappointed us, and this is another terrific example.

This little book is full of very useful information if one is planning an Alaskan cruise. I found it very helpful for choosing a cruise line, information about what I wanted to see in each port and what to stay away from. I recommend it highly.

This book was very good and gave lots of great information about Alaskan cruises. It gave lots of examples of what people can do on different types of cruises and ports. The many phone numbers listed are handy to have. The websites were extremely helpful, to save you the time of doing the research on your own. I especially like how they compared the different cruise ships, to find which one was best one suited for you. There were a few maps in the book, which are great for finding your way around the ports. I highly recommend this book because of all the wonderful information it has to offer for your trip to Alaska.

I ordered this book prior to an Alaskan cruise. We were able to save money by booking excursions at the pier, per recommendations in the guide, instead of signing up for the expensive excursions offered by the cruise ship.

We are planning an Alaska cruise for next year. I bought this book to determine what to see and do at the ports. I bought several of his books for other trips and he was just about spot on with his reviews. A lot of travel books just spout off info without telling it like it is. With Frommer's, he tells you if something is worth seeing. He talks about hotels and restaurants, also. I highly recommend this series of books. There isn't a lot that I feel strongly about, but I love Frommer's travel books.

An invaluable book for a first time Alaska cruiser like me. Well organized, concise, clearly written, covers the subjects you knew were needed and many you didn't know about but are all the more valuable. I strongly recommend this book.
